Performance and Video
Ensembles and Embryos
Music is artistic, biology is disciplined. Right?

Ensembles and Embryos was a live interactive performance about the similarities between developmental biology and music theory. It was created, written, and performed by myself and Adam McDonagh as part of the Rising Starts Public Engagement programme at the University of Cambridge.
Sold-out performances were held at the Cambridge Festival of Ideas (Oct 2018) and Cambridge Festival of Science (Mar 2019). For a more detailed description, please click here.

Stand-up Comedy
Early in my PhD I was extremely lucky to attend a few excellent stand-up comedy workshops held at Newnham College and run by Kate Smurthwaite.

In 2019 I attended a workshop run by Dr Steve Cross for The Variables - a Cambridgeshire based science stand-up comedy troupe. I performed for the first time with The Variables to a sold-out show at The Portland Arms in Cambridge June 2019. My full set can be watched here.
The Story Collider
The Story Collider is a non-profit organisation that hosts dozens of fantastic live, science storytelling shows each year in the USA, UK, and further afield. They turn the recordings they make of these shows into a popular podcast.

I wrote and performed a story about my dad for The Story Collider's Cambridge debut in March 2018 at the Cambridge Junction. The recording of my performance was later included in their podcast, and can be heard here.
I wrote and performed a second story in November 2019, this time about my decision not to apply for medical school.
BBC Look East
In March 2019 I was interviewed by Richard Daniel for BBC Look East - a regional television news program. I demonstrated how we dissect fruit fly larvae in the lab to study how their brains are made during developed, and described how important basic research into insects has been for our understanding of human health and disease. The segment was broadcast with the evening news that evening.
